ICYMI: New Red Bull rear wing, Bottas stuck in Finland & Albon shines

The Formula 1 circus has arrived in Baku ahead of the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend. GP Thursdays are often busy in the world of F1, and today's build-up to the on-track action has been no different. Here is your GPBlog Daily Round-up, covering the most important stories of the day. 

Red Bull's rear-wing 

For the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing have brought a new wing that is quite different from the ones we have seen at previous Grands Prix. The sub-plot for this weekend's race was always going to be about the potential Mercedes protest. The main differences in the new rear wing are in the wing endplates, which are flat without any of the normal slots. Meanwhile, the FIA has placed yellow stickers on the rear wings of every Formula 1 team, to measure the amount of flex in them. These stickers will be used as reference points when monitoring the different rear wings. Click here to read the full story. 

Bottas stuck in Finland

Whilst media interviews and team meetings were taking place in the paddock, Valtteri Bottas found himself stuck in an airport. The Mercedes carried out his interview as he waited in the airport for a new plane. Click here to read the full story. 

Bottas has since arrived at the circuit after his Mercedes team tracked his journey. 

Russell "tough love" from Wolff

George Russell has spoken out about his conversation with Toto Wolff following the crash between the Williams driver and Valtteri Bottas during the Grand Prix in Imola. The Brit described this as "tough love" but promises he has learnt the lessons and now sees Bottas and Lewis Hamilton as teammates in the same way as Nicholas Latifi. Albon gets praise for Monaco win

Red Bull opted to bring in Sergio Perez as Max Verstappen's teammate for the 2021 Formula 1 season, but Alex Albon continues to work for the team. In fact, Christian Horner dished out the praise to the British-Thai driver to give him recognition for Verstappen's win in Monaco. Horner says the work Albon completed on the simulator helped Red Bull improve the car in the gap between practice and qualifying. Click here for the full story.
