The Indianapolis 500 was run for the 105th time on Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the United States. Castroneves was the best over two hundred laps. He battled with Alex Palou until the final lap! Castroneves becomes the first four-time winner since 1991. He joins a club containing just three other members who have won the race four times.

Veekay takes early lead

Van Kalmthout, better known as Veekay, started third behind Scott Dixon and Colton Herta, but quickly took the lead in the race. The Dutchman maintained the lead until his first pit stop and remained in contention. After the first series of pitstops, Herta took over the lead from Veekay.

In the second set of pit stops, Conor Daly took over the lead. Meanwhile, the race has two dropouts. Stefan Wilson crashed in the pit lane and Graham Rahal had a big crash after an unsuccessful pit stop where his left rear tyre wasn't fastened properly.

Last thirty laps

The leader of the race at that point is Helio Castroneves. But the lead runners needed one more pit stop to get to the end. The two drivers at the front exchanged the virtual lead a number of times in the closing stages.

With six laps to go Castroneves secured the lead as Takuma Sato makes his final pit stop. Alex Palou tried hard to get past but couldn't beat the 46-year-old veteran.
