Nikita Mazepin had the toughest race of his career in Monaco, according to himself. For the first time in his single-seater career, the Russian needed 100% of his concentration to bring the car home in one piece.

Highest concentration required

Mazepin, however, did fine and even managed to finish ahead of his teammate Mick Schumacher. The Russian managed to avoid the walls and crossed the line in seventeenth place. "The race is very intense," Mazepin is quoted by Formula Spy.

"Ever since I started racing single-seaters I didn’t have so much required concentration, because on this track – even though we’re one of the slowest or the slowest team – everything flies by so much," Mazepin continued. The Haas F1 driver even thought to briefly touch the wall in the same spot that Charles Leclerc did. "There was no room for error."

Much improvement since Spain

Mazepin is happy with the steps he is taking, especially the last two races went well for him. "The car was quite difficult to drive very fast out there but we’ve made good progress within my internal team in Haas from Barcelona onwards and I would say that it’s a very positive picture."
