The Monaco GP was one to forget for the Alpine F1 team. Despite the result of Esteban Ocon in ninth place, the team lost a lot of points. Fernando Alonso missed out on points and finished only in 13th place.

Due to the good results of Aston Martin and Scuderia AlphaTauri, the team of Alpine drops two spots down in the constructors' championship. In an interview with Motorsport.com Marcin Budkowski, the executive director of Enstone, tells the following: "It could have been worse. Unfortunately, our competitors got the most out of the race, and especially those behind us who scored even bigger points because two of the leaders crashed out. So in the championship, it's painful. Honestly, it was a bad weekend for us."

Alonso's tyres didn't work

Fernando Alonso only qualified in 17th and finished the race in 13th place. This is a disappointing result for the two-time world champion, who has plenty of experience in Monaco. "They both struggled, on Thursday and Saturday morning. The difference was that Esteban managed to convert his tyres in Q1, run two, and Fernando didn't," Budkowski explained.

"Clearly not a good qualifying session, but it was made much worse by the fact that the tyres didn't work. I'm convinced Fernando would have been competitive if he could have made his car's tyres work. And to be honest, I think if we had gotten them working earlier in the weekend, Esteban would have been in Q3." Budkowski is not worried about the upcoming races. According to him, the weekend in Monaco was irrelevant to the progress seen in Portugal and Barcelona.
