Fernando Alonso has won the Monaco Grand Prix twice already, but last Sunday he was far from it. After having qualified in seventeenth place, he finished thirteenth in the race.

Boring races

Monaco is one of the oldest races on the calendar and despite all the objections and difficulties that modern Formula 1 brings, it doesn't seem to be going away either. Nevertheless, racing in the principality can be quite boring. Especially when there are no safety car situations or the weather is an important factor.

Sporting director Ross Brawn already announced earlier this week that he will look at possible modifications to the circuit. However, those plans are still in the early stages and require approval from the Automobile Club de Monaco - a conservative organisation.

Special rules for Monaco

Alonso has another solution in mind for more spectacle. "Maybe on this kind of street circuit we can go with a very specific tyre, which is not otherwise used on other circuits. Possibly that's something the sport can look at," the two-time world champion told Motorsport.com.

The Alpine driver also advocates leaving the hard tyres at home in future and only driving on softs. "You could set that in this race we only use that specific tire. So you don't have the option to change to the hard tire at some point and only drive on the soft tire. Maybe special races need special rules."
