Slowly but surely Sergio Perez seems to find his feet at Red Bull Racing, but it is not good enough yet. Especially in qualifying, the Mexican driver falls short and according to Helmut Marko, he is too inconsistent.

Short on Verstappen

With the exception of the race in Imola, where he threw away a podium finish through his own mistake, Perez has always managed to finish in the top five in der ace so far. As a result, he has played an important role in Red Bull's lead in the Constructors' Championship. Perez himself is now fifth in the championship.

In qualifying the Mexican is not doing so well. In the first five races, he qualified 11th (Bahrain), 2nd (Imola), 4th (Portugal), 8th (Spain) and 9th (Monaco). In Imola, he managed to qualify ahead of Max Verstappen, but in general, he fell well short of his teammate. As a result, in the race, there is always unnecessary ground to be gained.

Perez looks closely at Verstappen

Helmut Marko also sees the difference between Verstappen and Perez in qualifying, yet the Red Bull advisor is positive about Perez's development at the team. "Perez is getting better and better," judges the Austrian on Auto Motor und Sport. In doing so, he also briefly points to the difference with Pierre Gasly. "Perez doesn't want to reinvent the car, like Gasly. Instead, he looks at Max, analyses his laps and sees where he needs to improve."
