According to former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock, Charles Leclerc's retirement before the race may have been a result of his crash during qualifying. Ferrari discovered a problem with the car just before the race and decided not to start Leclerc's car.

In his column for Sky Sports Germany, Glock wrote the following: "It was very extreme and intense when Leclerc reported a problem with his car on the way to the starting grid. Ferrari even went so far as to say it had nothing to do with the accident in qualifying. I can well imagine that the impact on the wall with the right side of the car continued to the left side of the car, damaging the driveshaft."

Ferrari was the fastest

The former F1 driver says it's a shame Leclerc couldn't race. Ferrari looked strong at the start of the weekend. "The car was very good. And it's no coincidence that Sainz got in the car on Thursday and immediately set the fastest time. In the second free practice it was Leclerc, after he had problems with his gearbox in the morning. You could also see how well the Ferrari did there."

It remains to be seen if the Ferrari can also be the fastest in upcoming races.
