Charles Leclerc experienced a disaster in Monaco. The driver who was due to start on pole in his home race saw his dreams of victory dashed when a problem occurred on the way to the grid. This problem is very likely to be related to his crash in Q3.

"I feel a bit better now that I calmed down a bit. I was super emotional in the car. It’s hard not to finish, well I didn’t even start today
It’s difficult to digest it...The mechanics did everything they could, they gave their everything," Leclerc told Sky Germany. The problem apparently wasn't the gearbox and the team are still trying to work out exactly what the problem was.

Problem not the gearbox

Leclerc admits he didn't quite see the problem coming. "The issue was on the left side, so not the side where we had the crash yesterday. I was the one doing the mistake yesterday..." Several drivers came up to Leclerc to comfort him which did him good. The Monegasque ends by saying that he preferred to take the gamble in order to win.
