Romain Grosjean finally happy again after IndyCar pole position

After a long time at the back of the field, Romain Grosjean can finally celebrate with his first pole position in IndyCar. The Frenchman is happier than he has been for a long time.

At the end of 2020 season, Romain Grosjean had to leave Formula 1 after Haas decided to rely on Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin this season. In addition, the massive crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix meant that the Frenchman had to watch the final race from the sidelines.

Grosjean has now forgotten all about those setbacks after securing pole position in the IndyCar at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In doing so, he got a feeling that he has only felt sparingly in the past year. "Even though the last few years have been difficult in terms of results, sometimes it has been special, like last year when I finished ninth in Germany. Then I think about the 2018 German GP, where we were 12th after the last Safety Car and fought our way back to sixth. That was pretty cool," the Frenchman told Racer.com.

"Although you don't win, you still get that special feeling. Days I've forgotten are those where you have a race weekend and can finish on pole or win the race if you do everything right. That's definitely not something I had a chance to do the last couple of years."

Happier on the other side of the ocean

So, after his adventure with Haas, Grosjean is completely at home in IndyCar, despite being far from home. "I like the atmosphere between drivers and the tracks. The cars are fun to drive. I'm really happy. In terms of family, it's a difficult year though because I'm so far away. We knew it would happen. I am happier now, happier than I have been for a long time," continued the former F1 driver.

Grosjean also no longer has any intention of returning to the king class of motorsport, as other experienced drivers have done - think of Fernando Alonso's return to Alpine F1, for example. "A lot of people asked how I felt after the first F1 race of the new season and I wasn't there. I said, 'guys, that chapter is closed for me'. I had fun, but now I want something else," Grosjean concluded.
