Team numbers after Spain: Almost perfect weekend for Mercedes

Another one-two punch for Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in Spain. Mercedes and Red Bull Racing continue the battle and Ferrari are 'best of the rest' in Barcelona. Here are the numbers for the teams from last weekend.

Mercedes: 9,5

Lewis Hamilton's victory in Spain was largely due to the team's strategic choices. By bringing Hamilton in for a second time the world champion was able to take the race to himself. Valtteri Bottas' third place also marks Mercedes' third double podium of the season and puts them almost thirty points ahead of Red Bull Racing in the championship.

Red Bull Racing: 7.5

Max Verstappen's slow pit stop was perhaps the biggest blemish on Red Bull's weekend. The team did what it could to beat Mercedes, but the car was simply no match for Mercedes. However, the team is still in the race for both championships and Red Bull hasn't been this good for years.

McLaren: 8

Another strong weekend from McLaren. It is the only team that has finished in the points with both drivers in every race so far. McLaren had to let Ferrari take the 'best of the rest' title though and the battle for third place in the championship looks set to be a close one.

Ferrari: 9

The Italian team had their best weekend of the season so far. Charles Leclerc qualified strongly on the second row of the grid. The Monegasque briefly raced in third place, but eventually had to settle for fourth. Carlos Sainz was seventh and the team scores good points in the championship. Ferrari are mow only five points behind McLaren.

Alpine: 7

The qualifying speed at Alpine seems to be good. Esteban Ocon, in particular, was again fast on Saturday with a fifth place on the grid, but Fernando Alonso also managed to reach Q3. In the race, however, things were not as smooth and the French team had to settle for ninth place for Ocon. The team still has to find the connection with McLaren and Ferrari.

AlphaTauri: 6

The season started promisingly for AlphaTauri, but the team seems to be slipping away a bit. The team had their worst qualifying of the season in Spain, with Pierre Gasly just managing to get the final point. For Yuki Tsunoda the race ends after just six laps due to an engine problem.

Aston Martin: 5

Also at Aston Martin things aren't going smoothly and for the second race in a row the team didn't score any points. Sebastian Vettel especially is still not happy with his car, despite the updates he received in Spain. It remains to be seen if Lawrence Stroll's team can turn the tide.

Alfa Romeo: 7.5

Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi have shown the Alfa Romeo's potential at times, but it hasn't led to any points. However, with a bit of luck perhaps, it seems only a matter of time before those first points are scored.

Williams: 7

George Russell's 15th place on the grid showed once again that Williams is slowly but surely improving, but in the race the team still lacks speed. The Mercedes protégé finished 14th on Sunday, with Nicholas Latifi in 16th.

Haas: 4

Guenther Steiner's team was once again last in Spain, although Mick Schumacher did manage to beat Latifi in qualifying. Mazepin was once again the cause of discontent when, according to Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, he did not react quickly enough to blue flags.
