Toyoharu Tanabe saw Max Verstappen fall short of first place on the grid in Saturday afternoon's qualifying session. The Dutchman was close to the time of Lewis Hamilton, but four hundredths of a second was enough to let the Mercedes driver start from pole position. Tanabe still sees plenty of opportunities for Verstappen.

Red Bull Racing did well after a disappointing second free practice on Saturday. Verstappen set the fastest time in the third free practice session, and in qualifying he again managed to finish in the top three. Verstappen tried to beat Hamilton's time during his final run in Q3, but he didn't succeed in the end.

Tanabe also noticed the small difference in lap times. The technical director stated that this gives the drivers even more control over their performance. "The small margins ensure that you can make the difference as a driver," he explained in conversation with ASweb.jp. "At the same time, you can't afford to make a mistake after that either. You have to make the most of the potential you have."

Disappointing qualification Tsunoda

Alpha Tauri driver Yuki Tsunoda had an excellent start to the season, but drove a poor qualifying in Spain. With his time he didn't make it further than sixteenth on the grid. The problem lies in finding the balance. "Tsunoda seems to be having a lot of trouble with that. He has to search for the right balance in the car. It is to be hoped that he will improve quickly in that respect."
