Toto Wolff knows that the duel with Red Bull Racing for the world title will be a long one. Both Mercedes and Red Bull are determined not to slacken their pace as Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen could open up a gap in the battle for the world championship.

"The pecking order seems to change from circuit to circuit, so we know we have to be at the top of our game every weekend," Wolff said in a conversation with Motorsport.com about the current season and the fierce battle with Red Bull. "It's going to be a neck-and-neck battle with Red Bull all season and we can't wait to continue that battle in a few days in Spain."

Here lies the key for Mercedes

It is the first time in 2021 that the Formula One circus will descend on the Barcelona circuit this season. Normally, the winter tests are also always held in Catalonia, but due to the coronavirus, this year they took place in Bahrain.

"We're looking forward to being back at the circuit and seeing how we do," he said. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a real all-rounder, with a mix of corners and straights, making it a real test for the car. It's a track where controlling the rear tyres is key to good performance and that hasn't been our strongest point so far this season," said the Mercedes team boss, who is also keen to see what impact the changes to Turn 12 will have on the W12's performance.
