Sergio Perez hasn't quite hit his stride in his first three races for Red Bull Racing, but it's clear he's got speed. So far it looks like he'll be able to do the job Red Bull wants him to do.

In Portugal, Perez showed that he could cover an impressive distance on used tyres: He drove a total of almost sixty laps on the same tyres. However, he himself had hoped for more. "Of course I expected better things, however I prefer to see the glass half full and I'm happy with the progress we have made in terms of adapting to the car. Imola and Portugal were very complicated races, but I learned a lot. We were running at the same pace as the leader group, and we scored some good points, this can only get better," Perez said in a Red Bull Racing press release.

Perez expects a good weekend for Red Bull

Perez says the atmosphere within the team has not changed now that the battle between Red Bull and Mercedes is so close. "I've been here for a short time, but since I got here the atmosphere has been the same, everyone in the Team is working towards the same goal: winning races and aiming to win the championship.
It is something completely different from what I'm used to and the motivation is really high. I'm very happy to be here and to be part of this effort, I'm pretty sure I won’t let this team down,"
he continued.

Unlike Portimao, both Perez and Max Verstappen expect the Barcelona circuit to suit the Red Bulls better. "I think we should be in the fight right from the start," says Perez. "The key here is to find the right balance and take care of the the tyres on the right side. The wind is also something to consider. It's a very tricky circuit, but as I said, we should be competitive from the beginning and fight for the win."

Barcelona is not only special for Verstappen because of his first victory, also Perez has good memories of it. "In 2011 I scored my first points there, and who knows, maybe it could be my first podium with Red Bull," Perez said.
