Max Verstappen hasn't lost his sense of humour after the disappointing qualifying session for the Portuguese Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver caught up with Lewis Hamilton during the press conference when he said he didn't want to race with MotoGP engines at the Portimao circuit.

Hamilton indicates that given the deficit he doesn't really see that as a good idea, to which Verstappen adds, "If we do that, we'll need a couple of spare engines..." Just like last season, the tarmac is smooth in the Algarve.

Verstappen on mediums

This also makes it difficult to get the temperature in the tyres. As the 23-year-old from Limburg will start the race on mediums, it will certainly be a bit of a challenge for the guys coming from behind on the softs. Despite this potential disadvantage, Verstappen is happy that he chose the mediums to set the fastest time in Q2.

"Then we can go a bit longer. The long runs looked pretty good on Friday as well. It's not very easy to follow here, but if we have the speed we will try to put the pressure on," Verstappen is quoted by The Telegraph.
