Sergio Perez will have settled in nicely at Red Bull Racing by now. Despite the fact that his first two race weekends for the team weren't perfect, he has shown that he has potential. To find out more about Max Verstappen's new teammate, Red Bull Racing spoke to Perez about 11 things most people don't know about him.

He crashed his first car

Perez's first car was a Chevrolet, which had first belonged to his sister and before that to his brother. Beyond Checo, however, the car was not passed on. "I forgot something at home so I decided to drive in the wrong way thinking I could make it, but there was a car coming in the other direction and I crashed into them," Perez explained. "That was the end of the car."

He left his wallet with Christian Horner

A slightly embarrassing moment occurred after Perez had been to his new team boss Christian Horner's house. "I had a meeting with Christian and pretty much straight after I flew back to Mexico. A few days later Christian phoned me to let me know I’d left my wallet behind and I still hadn’t realised. But it was good because I wasn’t going to see him for a while, so I wasn’t going to spend any money," Perez says jokingly.

He has his own charity foundation

Perez is from Guadalajara, and in that place he founded The Checo Pérez Foundation in 2012. The foundation aims to give weaker groups, especially children, a chance in society. "It’s nice because you can help the people out there that are less fortunate than yourself. As a charity, we’ve done a lot over the years. For example, we had a bad earthquake three years ago and we focused on helping with that. We gave houses back to those that lost them. I’m very proud of the work the foundation has done," Perez said.
