Mercedes is currently active in Formula 1 and Formula E, but Toto Wolff sees that these two classes that are currently completely separated could also come together in the future.

Increasing interest in FE

While Formula 1 fans had to wait another week for the action in Imola, Formula E fans were able to enjoy another ePrix in Rome last weekend. An action-packed Double-Header, with Stoffel Vandoorne winning for Mercedes on Sunday. If you looked closely, you could also see Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff.

The overlap between Formula E and Formula 1 has been mostly avoided in recent years. The electric class clearly wants to build its own image and not depend on discarded Formula 1 drivers. Meanwhile, the electric class has major brands attached to it such as Audi, BMW, Porsche and Mercedes, as well as some great drivers.

Formula E and Formula 1

Jean Todt hinted on Monday that he sees a possibility of Formula E and Formula 1 racing together in the future, and Wolff agrees with that idea. ''I don't know to what extent the classes could go together, but Formula E looks spectacular on street circuits, and I can imagine these cars racing together with F1 in Monaco or Singapore,'' Wolff said according to Marca.

While Formula E is of course entirely focused on electric cars, F1 also still has value for the automotive industry. ''Formula 1 is mainly focused on hybrid technology and renewable fuels, where the FE is entirely focused on electric cars. There are parts that are interesting for normal cars,'' the Austrian concluded.
