Steiner not dissatisfied after Bahrain: "We knew the challenge"

With the race at Imola just around the corner, the Haas men can only do better than they did in the first race at Bahrain's Sakhir circuit. Both Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin had a far from perfect weekend. Still, team principal Guenther Steiner felt that both drivers did not do so badly during the opening race.

Rookies

Earlier Mick Schumacher said he learned a lot from his first F1 Grand Prix. Guenther Steiner and Nikita Mazepin also tell The-Race.com how they experienced the opening race. The young, much talked about Russian says he used the two ticks between Bahrain and Imola to "go away and look back on the weekend to see what things I need to improve. And obviously as a rookie that's a lot of things."

Guenther Steiner was not unhappy with how his team performed out in the desert. He is aware that not being able to develop the car properly combined with two rookie drivers will mean that the team will not be raking in too many points. "Formula 1 is a very difficult sport, we knew the challenge. That's why it [Schumacher and Mazepin's performance] is not a big surprise."

Micromanaging

Steiner feels that, having decided to start the season with two rookies, the team should not whine afterwards now if something goes wrong: "We decided to do this, and now we have to get through it. I just try to make sure the drivers feel comfortable. I'm not trying to micromanage them."
