Pirelli will take the C2, C3 and C4 tyres to Italy for the Grand Prix at Imola. Pirelli chief Mario Isola expects many one-stops during the race, especially because of the long pit-lane and the difficulty to overtake.

Isola expects the 2021 race to be very different from last year's race, especially because of the time of year. "Although the last race at Imola took place nearly six months ago, conditions could possibly be different now in April compared to November, and of course the tyre construction has changed," he revealed on the website of Pirelli.

One pit stop will be enough

"As was the case for the last race here, we expect teams to go with a one-stop strategy, also because of the time lost in the pits and relative difficulty in overtaking," Isola continued. That overtaking is not easy at Imola can be confirmed by Max Verstappen, who was stuck behind Valtteri Bottas for laps last year. Only after a mistake by the Finn could Verstappen pass him.

Verstappen did not finish that race and caused a safety car. According to Isola, that safety car has left many question marks surrounding the upcoming weekend in Italy.
