The aerodynamic and regulatory changes this year seem to have really unleashed the battle between Mercedes and Red Bull. Yet Helmut Marko, top executive at Red Bull Racing, does not want to comment in definitive terms on the advantage his team has gained over the direct competition.

"That [the rule change] affects us less is a speculation and nothing can be proven," Marko explained opposite Motorsport-Total.com. The Austrian is referring to the aerodynamic changes to which Mercedes and Red Bull have responded significantly differently. The so-called high-rake concept of Red Bull seems to have been the best one, but Marko doesn't want to say anything definitive about this.

Marko then explained the reasoning behind the changes from Pirelli's side: "The main argument came from Pirelli that the load [on the tires] should not be too high."

Don't whine, adapt

Marko also doesn't want to know anything about Mercedes' recent lamentations regarding the rule changes. "[When] Mercedes [still] had this blatant lead, they said their concept is the better anyway. Now it's suddenly ours. If there are changes in the regulations, you just have to adapt them."
