Frijns does not blame incident for good result: 'Would have still been fourth'

The first E-Prix of Rome has caused quite some chaos, with many incidents. One of the drivers who was able to benefit from this is Robin Frijns, who finished in fourth place.

The race in Rome could not start normally, due to rain that wet the asphalt between qualifying and the start. That meant a start behind the Safety Car, led by Mercedes' Stoffel Vandoorne.

Once the Safety Car had gone back in, the action could really get underway, with Robin Frijns doing well. "I felt competitive in the early stages when the track was still wet. Shortly after that it started raining again, but I still felt very comfortable," the Dutchman told FormulaPassion.it.

The situation changed for Frijns as the track weather conditions improved. "When the track started to dry up, I lost some speed and struggled at the end. I think I made some mistakes from my side, but even without them I think I would have finished in the same place given the pace."

Start and ending behind Safety Car

The Dutchman finished the race in fourth place after Vandoorne crashed, Nyck de Vries collided with his teammate and the race was ended behind the Safety Car. "Stoffel hit the manhole cover, which caused the nose to come up and he lost the rear. He was unlucky and did nothing wrong."

Despite the many incidents, Frijns has no intention of taking it easy at the second E-Prix in Rome tomorrow. "It's still the third race, I'm not worried about the standings right now."
