The Netflix series Drive To Survive has created a whole new audience within Formula 1 in recent years. After the successful third season, the attention for the sport is growing enormously and a fourth season is already in the making. Mastermind behind the whole project, James Gay-Rees explains that the third season wasn't just planning.

"It's also about luck in making the series. We were at Hockenheim in 2019 with Mercedes and they had their worst weekend in five years. You never know if you're going to get lucky with making it," the producer of the successful series explains in the podcast 'In the Fast Lane'.

Better season than 2020?

"In Bahrain it went really well. We went with Red Bull and McLaren and both had a strong weekend." Ahead of the upcoming season, many F1 fans are looking forward to the battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Gay-Rees is also hoping his team can get a lot of that on screen. "Everyone is hoping for that big battle between Red Bull and Mercedes," he said.

Gay-Rees also notices Red Bull's role in the making of the series. "They still try to nuance their own role, but everyone expects the duel." For the Netflix series, the battle for third place will also be important. "McLaren and Ferrari will still be fighting for that third place. It looks like it's going to be a good season now. We keep trying to make each season better than the last," Gay-Rees concluded.
