Alpha Tauri made a positive impression at the first race weekend of the season. While Pierre Gasly did not finish the race, Yuki Tsunoda did excellent business in the battle for the points with a fine ninth place. However, we can expect more from the team, believes technical director Jody Egginton.

The vast majority of the Formula 1 teams have indicated that they will continue the development of the car during the season. That also applies to Alpha Tauri, which hopes to have an even better car at its disposal during the GP of Spain. The team still has a month left, as the Spanish race is scheduled for the weekend of 7, 8, and 9 May.

"Our pre-season programme was simply to get to know our car in a systematic way," Egginton explained to Motorsport.com France

"We spent a lot of time collecting aerodynamic data because this car was developed in our 50 per cent wind tunnel and we have since moved to the 60 per cent wind tunnel."

Progress for AlphaTauri

The analysis should help Gasly and Tsunoda make rapid progress with their team. "We are working on giving the car a wider aerodynamic control window. Especially at low speeds the driver can make use of it and we will go faster." The coming races should show where it can lead.
