Lewis Hamilton is an outspoken figure, on and off the track. According to the seven-time world champion, Formula 1 can be seen as art and the drivers as painters.

Hamilton increased his argument as the greatest of all time in Bahrain last time out, when he held off Max Verstappen to win the race in Sakhir.

After his victory, Hamilton spoke to Sky Sports F1 about his artistic side, which he says he also shows on the track. "Formula 1 is like an art form and I feel like a creative person on and off the track. I don't know if people see it like that, but in reality it is like that. If you look at a painter trying to find his strokes to paint, it's the same as what we do as drivers.

"We are constantly trying to perfect the car. We are creative in choosing the set-up of the car, understanding what can be done, redesigning the steering wheel, the pedals, the seat, the aerodynamics. There's definitely a big creative side to everything we do," said Hamilton.

Reason for success

The Mercedes driver's creativity is not only reflected on the track, but it is also a reason for his great success. "Probably more than 90 percent of people told me not to go to Mercedes. But that was my chance to be creative, to grow at a team that maybe wasn't at the top, but had the potential to be," explained the World Champion.

Moreover, Hamilton is not only successful in Formula 1. Besides racing, he is active in many other industries, such as fashion. "I think I'm busier than any other driver. I have experienced so many different things that I have become passionate about. There are still so many that I would love to do again and would do if I didn't have to spend so much on racing," the Brit concluded.
