For the Haas drivers, their debut in Bahrain did not go as they had hoped. Nikita Mazepin crashed out of the race on the first lap and Mick Schumacher spun as well, but still finished the race. The German still had a lot of trouble this weekend.

Haas struggling

Haas chooses to start with two 'Rookies' in 2021. Team boss Günther Steiner needed two drivers who bring a lot of money, but also have the potential to be fast. With Schumacher and Mazepin he brought in guys from Formula 2 who already had some years of experience, but also both brought a bag of money.

That bag of money can't race, however, as the first race weekend showed. The Haas car is barely developed and probably the worst car on the grid. Not the nicest car to debut in, and Mazepin and Schumacher both found that out with a spin. The German, however, finished the race.

Difficult debut for Schumacher

''The conditions were not ideal, the wind was very strong, so it was very difficult to keep the car on the track. Then I also had the spin at the start, so we lost a bit of ground on the other drivers'', Schumacher told Sky Sports.

''With cold wheels, I went on the gas too early and then I lost the back straight away. But I'm happy I was still able to finish the race. The biggest challenge was to keep the tyres alive. Especially with all those blue flags, it was very difficult to keep the temperature in the tyres'', concludes the son of Michael Schumacher.
