Sebastian Vettel had probably hoped his debut for Aston Martin would go differently. The four time world champion rammed Esteban Ocon and was given a penalty by the stewards. Without that crash he probably wouldn't have finished in the top-ten either, which raises the question if Vettel is still good enough. Jason Watt shares his opinion.

The Danish driver told Ekstra Bladet newspaper that Vettel's career could end after next season, despite having signed a long-term contract. "He was good in the 'old days' in the mega-downforce Red Bull, but since then it has gone pretty downhill. He's making stupid mistakes that show the pressure he's under. If you ask me, he won't be on the grid in 2022."

Results fail to materialise

Watt sees it as being a bleak time for Vettel."He had probably hoped for a recovery this year, but I think time is running out for Vettel. He will never get back to the level he was at before. I'm sorry to point out that he hasn't delivered anything at all in the last two or three years," said the 51-year-old driver.

At Aston Martin themselves, they are still so worried. Team boss Otmar Szafnauer defended Vettel last weekend by claiming that the British racing stable's 2021 car is very different to Ferrari's, as they build cars in Italy with a very different philosophy.
