For the Haas team, the opening race in Bahrain was a disappointment. Although the team has tempered its seasonal expectations often enough beforehand, they probably imagined more for the season opener. Nikita Mazepin spun on the first lap, Mick Schumacher did four clean laps before his car rotated around its axis.

Learning

Unlike Mazepin, the young German did manage to finish the race. He finished the race in 16th place, after that same Mazepin, Fernando Alonso, Nicholas Latifi and Pierre Gasly crashed out. Although Schumacher's race was effectively over after four laps, the famous son of Michael Schumacher is adamant that he has learned from his incident. Speaking to Motorsport.com he says: "After the safety car restart my tyres were not in the right window so the grip was very low."

Guilt-ridden, he added: "I obviously made a mistake and that is something I will keep with me for a very long time. I will try to understand what went wrong and try to learn from that."

Dream

Nonetheless, it was a special weekend for Schumacher, who was able to take comfort from the fact that he was following in his father's footsteps by being at the start of a Formula 10 race. "It's obviously been a lifelong dream to be here. I'm disappointed with the mistake in Turn 4 on the restart. I just got a snap. It happened so fast that the car spun immediately. 16th place also sounds better than it is, we were clearly the slowest car. Still, I think we did everything we needed to do."
