It was the talking point of last weekend: the overtaking action of Max Verstappen on Lewis Hamilton, which the Dutchman eventually had to give back. Marc Surer also has an opinion and it is short and sweet.

During the Bahrain Grand Prix, Hamilton went off-track several times in Turn 4. Little attention was paid to this until Verstappen heard from his team that he could do the same. Race control intervened and announced that it was not the intention to continuously go too wide through Turn 4.

Controversial overtaking action Verstappen

When Verstappen overtook Hamilton on lap 53 he had to go around turn four. The Dutchman also went outside the track, but passed the Brit. Verstappen was immediately whistled back and gave the position back.

According to Surer, this was completely justified: "If an overtaking manoeuvre only works because you leave the track, you had an unfair advantage," he told Motorsport-Total.com. Surer thinks Verstappen should have been more patient, because "you can't just overtake someone like Hamilton on the outside."
