Vettel doesn't panic, but is 'upset and angry'

Sebastian Vettel's adventure at Aston Martin didn't start off well. After a dramatic season at Ferrari, where he failed to get through Q1 several times, that trend looks set to continue in 2021. Although there were some extenuating circumstances.

"If I panicked now it wouldn't help," Vettel told Sky Sports F1 afterwards. "I'm definitely upset and angry - it wasn't our fault in a way - to not make it, but we have to accept this and do what we can to prepare for tomorrow."

Vettel has previously indicated that he needs to get used to his new car quite a bit. Although it felt better during qualifying, the team and himself are not yet where they want to be. Although there would have been no top classification otherwise, Vettel can also blame the yellow flags caused by Mazepin.

"It was a mess in the last sector during the warm-up lap, I just crossed the line by less than a second and then I got two yellow flags, so at that stage we couldn't do much more," Vettel said of the main reason he was eliminated.
