When the new Formula 1 season starts this weekend we will meet three rookies: Yuki Tsunoda, Nikita Mazepin and of course Mick Schumacher. The latter enjoys a lot of attention and that is simply because he is the son of seven times world champion Michael Schumacher. So he will always be under a slightly better magnifying glass than other drivers, but he doesn't experience his surname as a burden.

Absolutely no burden

With Mick Schumacher the legendary name returns to Formula 1. And if he does well, he will undoubtedly end up at Ferrari sooner or later. After all, that is the team with which his father won five titles. Ferrari is also behind his placement at Haas, so for now he has the wind in his sails. But as it goes in Formula 1, that wind can change quickly. Especially when your name is Schumacher.

In an interview with ESPN, Mick Schumacher was asked for his personal opinion on carrying the legendary last name. Is it a burden? "No, definitely not. I'm very happy to have it. I drive and racing because I love the sport and love what I'm doing. I don't see it as a burden, no." Of course, what counts is that he is somewhat used to the attention, so he doesn't get distracted by it.

"Obviously for me it's no different as it's always been around and I feel very comfortable in the position I am in. I'm very proud carrying the name into Formula One again and being able to race and feel my performance. I keep it and wear it very proudly." This Sunday, Mick Schumacher will make his debut in his first Grand Prix on behalf of Haas. Of course, he will already be in action during free practice on Friday.
