Ferrari engines do most laps of testing, Mercedes engines far below
Perhaps the most striking element of the winter test in Bahrain were the problems that Mercedes were facing. When looking at the average number of laps per engine supplier, there is clearly a problem with all teams with Mercedes engines.
Few test laps for Mercedes and Aston Martin
The drivers of Mercedes and Aston Martin would have preferred to do more laps during the winter test, but both teams suffered from gearbox problems. This is also reflected in the average number of laps driven by the Mercedes engines.
When the total number of laps driven by the four Mercedes-powered teams is divided by four it comes to an average of 329.5 laps per team. The average of the three Ferrari-teams was 406.6 laps. The Renault and Honda engines were very close to each other in terms of the number of laps completed. Alpine is the only Renault team and they completed 396 laps, whilst the two Honda teams ended up with an average of 395.5 laps.
Extra film day for Mercedes
Mercedes have two more weeks to solve their reliability problems, and the team have already scheduled an extra day of filming at the Bahrain circuit.
