Roberts reports in conversation on the official Formula 1 website that Nissany is a good choice for the test days. Where the regular drivers would normally be out on the track, they can now focus on other things, while 26-year-old Nissany takes care of the testing. Roberts sees only advantages.

"It's good for Roy to get this experience in the car. We can use the day with him to do things that will give the regular drivers a chance to focus on other parts of the programme."

Regular drivers will not miss the test days

Roberts adds that the regulars, Russell and Latifi, will not miss the days. Due to the barely changed regulations, the upcoming season will be about the same as last season. Instead, the two drivers can prepare better by focusing on other elements.

"Since we've taken over a lot of the 2020 racer, the full checks we usually go through with a new car don't have to come, so we don't expect any worries about mileage."

Which elements these are, the Williams team boss does not tell. Whether Russell and Latifi will be properly prepared and in shape for the season ahead by missing the test days remains to be seen. All other teams send their drivers to the track because they think the test days are important. Not all drivers are happy about this, as the days would be boring and tedious, but one thing is for sure: they have already clocked up some miles in their new cars when the season starts.
