With the arrival of Sergio Perez, Red Bull Racing has a new driver in the garage for the third year in a row. After Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon, Perez must now try to come close to Max Verstappen.

Since the departure of Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull Racing have been unable to fill the spot next to Max Verstappen. Gasly and Albon have both struggled to keep up with the Dutchman, despite Albon being given a year and a half to do so. Perez has a little more experience and should be a support for Verstappen from 2021.

A lot of information for Red Bull

''Sergio adapted well right away. He drove the two-year-old RB15 at Silverstone and has also been in the simulator a lot. He was able to give us as many interesting details about the responsiveness of the Mercedes engine,'' Helmut Marko said in a conversation with Servus TV. Perez did not only have information about Mercedes, however.

''Sergio also gave information about tyre pressure. It was with this that a Force India (Racing Point) was suddenly at the front of the grid in qualifying in the rain. Sergio's experience in dealing with tyres is very important. If you have him alongside young Max, you might have the best driver duo.''

Perez and Red Bull

Perez is the first driver since Mark Webber to be brought into Red Bull Racing's car from outside the team's training department. The two sides have known each other for some time, however, as Perez was on Helmut Marko's radar for many years. At the time, however, the team opted for Daniel Ricciardo, and Perez got his chance at Sauber, on behalf of Ferrari's training programme.

''Perez has never been far away from our talent programme. In 2007 we had a test day with Red Bull in Estoril, but he had a very strong management behind him in Mexico, so he was just not an option for us at that time'', the Austrian concludes.
