Verstappen's patience is not infinite: 'Still have to show it'

In 2021 Max Verstappen hopes to finally be in contention for the world title. With regulations remaining largely unchanged, Red Bull Racing can catch up with Mercedes, but will that be enough for next season?

Max Verstappen is already in his seventh season in Formula 1 and with ten victories, the Dutchman has already made a name for himself in the sport. However, the Dutchman wants more. He is aiming for the world title, but since the hybrid era, Red Bull has not been close to Mercedes. In 2022 there is a big chance for Red Bull when the rules will change.

A chance for Red Bull in 2022

''Usually the longer you leave the rules the closer all the teams get to each other. Every time you write a new rulebook, the differences are the biggest in the first year. I expect the same next year,'' Verstappen told Motorsport.com about the 2022 Formula 1 season.

The fact that a budget cap is in place for that season has no influence, according to Verstappen. ''Even if you limit the budget, the bright minds always draw better than the less bright ones. And for other teams it then takes a while to get closer'', says the Dutchman.

On to the title

Verstappen does not want to wait until 2022, however, but strike already in 2021. Honda is bringing out a new engine and Red Bull will do everything it can to close the gap to Mercedes. Verstappen is in his place with the Austrian team, but also states that his patience is not finite. He too will want to make the step to a team competing for the world title one day.

''No, of course not. But everyone knows that. I want that too, of course. We always want to perform. Red Bull knows that too, they also want to win. We are on the same page, but we still have to show it, of course'', concludes the Red Bull Racing driver.
