The FW43B must meet this requirement so that Russell can score points

George Russell has still not scored points with Williams in the two years. The three points he managed to score came at Mercedes when he replaced Lewis Hamilton who was forced to sit on the sidelines due to a coronavirus infection.

Two years without points at Williams

The first car that Russell drove in F1, the FW42 was a slow car. There was no pace and the only point scored in 2019 with that car was by Robert Kubica, after nearly half of the field retired during the bizarre German Grand Prix.

In 2020 Williams took big steps in the right direction and came close to the points a number of times. The Grand Prix of Tuscany and the Emilia Romagna GP seemed to be the biggest contenders, but it didn't work out. Williams has made changes again for 2021, which will finally end the point drought for Russell.

This must improve in 2021

The 23-year-old Brit is not afraid of a fight. In his race with Mercedes at the Sakhir Grand Prix, he showed guts by overtaking teammate Valtteri Bottas at a point where it seemed almost impossible. It will be important for the FW43B that the rear is a lot more stable so that Russell can also show this kind of overtaking with his Williams.

The Mercedes power source in the back of the Williams still seems to be the strongest on the field. Only due to the poor aerodynamics does the car seem to be dragging a lot. The FW43 was a real windcatcher, which meant that the Mercedes engine did not come into its own. With a sharpened front wing and modified bargeboards, this problem should largely be solved.
