Lewis Hamilton is going for his eighth world title in Formula 1 next season, but the Brit has become much more than just a driver. More than ever, he is committed to equality, both inside and outside of Formula 1.

Black Lives Matter

With the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, Hamilton also became more outspoken on the subject. He made sure the Mercedes had a black livery as a statement against racial injustice. There was also a moment before each race in 2020 to reflect on racism and discrimination with many drivers kneeling. A committee was also set up to improve diversity in motorsport.

Keep on fighting

On his social media on Friday, Hamilton again spoke out on the subject. “Last year some of us took a knee in support of equality which I am proud of. My question is, what’s next? The inequities within our sport and within the world persist. Change is still needed. We must keep pushing to hold ourselves and others accountable," said the seven-time world champion.

The British driver also reveals that he is still very combative. "We have to keep striving for equality for all, in order to continue to see true and lasting change in our world. As long as I have air in my lungs, I will continue to fight for change in everything I do. I will work to create pathways and opportunities for kids of colour, within sciences, engineering and creative disciplines.”
