Red Bull Racing have presented the car with which they aim to become Formula One world champion in the final year of their partnership with Honda: The RB16B. Like the other teams, they have chosen not to build a completely new car for 2021.

Of course, this is mainly due to the coronavirus crisis. The new regulations were postponed for a year to 2022, so 2021 is considered an interim year. To save money in these difficult times, the FIA has restricted development for this season as much as possible.

The car with which Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will start the first Grand Prix in Bahrain will therefore have many similarities with last year's car. At first glance this is a good sign for them, as the RB16 performed excellently in the second half of the season and was even faster than the Mercedes at times.

Can Red Bull Racing beat Mercedes?

Nevertheless, Adrian Newey faced quite a challenge last winter. In order to reduce the speed, the FIA has decided that part of the floor will disappear. With that, about 10% of the downforce is lost and top designer Newey will do everything he can to recover this.

It will be interesting to see how RB16B compares to Mercedes' new car. They too have to cut a chunk off the floor, but because the Mercedes has a much longer wheelbase, the outcome of this measure may be very different for both top teams.
