Zak Brown took the helm of McLaren Racing in 2018 and the legendary team has only improved since then. This can be seen, among other things, in the car itself.

When Brown joined McLaren, the team was in a serious slump. Performance had fallen off considerably in recent years, with a ninth place finish in the championship in 2017 being the low point. In 2018, however, Brown was not the only change at McLaren. Renault replaced Honda as engine supplier and the orange livery was introduced.

From that point on, the performance kept improving. In 2018, McLaren finished sixth in the championship, at the time still with Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne. In 2019 and 2020, the team drives with Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris as a duo, almost finding the connection with the top. For the first time since 2014, podium finishes are achieved and the team finishes third in the championship in 2020.

New sponsors

Brown's influence is not only reflected in the performance, but also financially McLaren is doing well. New investors are found and the number of sponsors on the car increases. Compare the 2018 and 2020 cars below. Next season, we will see if McLaren can definitely return to the top.
