Formula 1 wanted to return to normal in 2021 with a full racing calendar. However, the coronavirus is far from gone, so the teams have to take everything into account. This is proving more difficult than expected.

Formula 1 calendar

In 2020, the full F1 season was postponed and then started later in the year. The calendar was filled during the season and so the teams had to constantly arrange new things. However, according to Alfa Romeo team manager Beat Zehnder, there was much more going on behind closed doors than was visible to the public.

''One thing that was constantly changing was the calendar. Much more was happening in the background than was visible to the public. During the first lockdown, there were different calendars. The difficult thing was to keep anticipating that. Then you book airline tickets and hotels for a calendar, but then those races are cancelled again," Zehnder told Auto, Motor und Sport.

Not to Monaco

The Alfa Romeo team manager therefore believes that a lot will change in 2021 too. ''I believe we have to look step by step. We will go to Bahrain and then we can go to Imola. But I can't imagine that England will let us go to a country which is so contaminated, so now we wouldn't go to the Nürburgring, for example."

''The vaccinations will start working from a certain point, but it is not as fast as we would like. Those vaccinations will only start to help us in the second part of the season. I don't see us racing on temporary circuits in the first half, even though Monaco has assured us that they want to host the race," Zehnder concluded.
