Valtteri Bottas participated in the Arctic Lapland Rally for the third time. The race was held from January 14 to 16 in Lapland, Finland. Bottas achieved a top ten ranking for the third consecutive year.

Fun but challenging

Bottas, with co-driver Timo Rautiainen, drove a Citroen DS3 World Rally Car to sixth place in the standings. In 2019 Bottas was fifth and ninth in 2020. The rally was won by Juho Hanninen. "So much fun, yet challenging," Bottas said on Twitter.

More improvisation

To Pirelli, Bottas spoke about his experiences in Lapland. “First of all, rally cars at this level are obviously four-wheel drive, so that makes the driving style quite different and you really need to slide the car sometimes. Also, you have to drive while you’re listening to someone else," PlanetF1.com quoted him as saying.

“In F1, I would say the driving is more precise because we know the lap, the corner and every single kerb and bump by heart, so it’s really exact. Rallying is more improvised.”
