F1 addresses rumours on cancellation of street circuit: 'That's not true at all'

The coronavirus pandemic is still causing many problems inside and outside Formula 1. Whereas in 2020 the races remained largely within Europe, the plan for 2021 is for them to fly around the world again to complete a record 23 races. This also creates a logistical challenge, with the chance of an outbreak within the F1 paddock always present. This also increases the likelihood of a Grand Prix being canceled.

This leaves many street circuits with worries. Often they have to start preparing for a Grand Prix months in advance and so it is a very expensive mission if eventually it turns out that the race cannot take place. The FOM cannot give any guarantees either and for the organizers of the Grands Prix it is a risk to plan a race.

Rumors are false

Formula 1 itself, however, remains hopeful and expects the street circuits to be part of the 2021 calendar, so there will be as few changes as possible to the calendar. "We have now released the details of the revised 2021 calendar and there will be no other changes," an F1 spokesman explained to RaceFans.

"The rumors that the Grands Prix on street circuits will not take place are not true at all," indicating F1's confidence in the races in Monaco, Baku, Singapore and Jeddah, among others, which will be a new addition to the 2021 calendar. The street circuits are not the only races where postponement or cancellation is feared.
