Everyone had hoped that the coronavirus would leave Formula 1 alone in 2021, but the persistent virus is already affecting the calendar. But what other Grands Prix could face a delay or even a complete cancellation in 2021?

It was already known that the Australian Grand Prix would have to be held on a different date than planned, but today the race in China has been added to that list. Due to the rising figures there simply cannot be held a Grand Prix in the country at the original date.

China and Australia are certainly not the only countries that have to deal with a big increase. There are therefore a number of races planned in the first half of the year that may also have to be cancelled or held on another date. Hopefully the vaccine will make sure that the second half of 2021 will be calmer as far as the coronavirus is concerned.

GP Bahrain

One of the Grands Prix that will almost certainly continue is the race in Bahrain. The country has already organized two races at the end of 2020 and the organization could be asked to use the Outer Circuit again for a second Grand Prix.

GP Spain

Since the arrival of the coronavirus in Europe, Spain has been one of the first and hardest hit countries. Also then with the second wave the Mediterranean country was one of the areas where a huge peak could be seen first. Since then it has been relatively quiet in Spain, without a clear increase in the number of infections. If this level can be maintained, a Grand Prix in the spring is certainly possible.

GP Monaco

As a small country, Monaco is extra susceptible to a contagious disease like the coronavirus. After all, the entire population lives in almost one city. Moreover, in recent weeks there has been an increase in the number of infections. The numbers are just not huge yet and if it can be contained, the classic Grand Prix can be held again this year.

GP Azerbaijan

Like many other races, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix could not be held last year - better known as Baku among fans. The country also experienced a steep rise in December, but Azerbaijan seems to be over the worst point. With the strict regime in the country, the chances are high that the often eventful Grand Prix can be held again in 2021.

GP Canada

In 2020, most races outside Europe were cancelled, including Canada. With the current figures in the country, it looks like Lance Stroll and Nicholas Latifi won't get a home race again this year, as there has been a constant increase in recent weeks. There is still time to turn the tide, however.

GP Austria

Austria was one of the countries that made it possible for us to race again fairly quickly in 2020, opening the season with two races. It seems that the event can take place again, because after a peak in November, the number of infections seems to have stabilised again in Austria.

GP Great Britain

The biggest problem at the moment is, of course, Great Britain. No less than 68,000 new infections were added on Friday and it will be a long time before that fire is extinguished. In the meantime, the country is doing everything it can to vaccinate everyone against the virus, but the question is whether that is enough. It will be a few months before the British GP can be held, but the race is anything but a certainty this season.

GP Hungary

The first half of 2021 will be concluded, as always, with the Grand Prix in Hungary. The figures in the country are stabilizing again, after a peak in December. With a few months to go, it's hard to say, but it looks like the race is going to be held again this year.
