Yuki Tsunoda will make his official debut for AlphaTauri next season. The young Japanese driver drove his first season in Formula 2 last year, but managed to impress so much that he managed to convince the Italian team to give him a seat for the 2021 season. Tsunoda was also allowed to test in an old AlphaTauri car for his super license.

In an interview on the official AlphaTauri channels, Tsunoda looks back on his first few metres as an F1 driver. "The hardest thing so far is the steering wheel, which is completely different from the previous cars I drove. There weren't so many buttons on it. My goal in the beginning will be to understand all the buttons on the steering wheel, so that I don't have to look while driving to see which button to press."

Testing important for Tsunoda

The Japanese driver made his debut in Imola in a Formula 1 car, where he had to achieve his super license by passing a 300 kilometre test. This went well for Tsunoda, so he can now get ready for his debut as an F1 driver at AlphaTauri. "300 kilometres is a lot, it is especially important that I cover long distances."

Because, with fewer test days in 2021, time on the track has become even more important. "With more distance covered, you also learn more from the car and it becomes easier to drive," the young AlphaTauri driver concludes.
