Marko finds a solution for Albon: "A real challenge"

Helmut Marko reacted for the first time to Alexander Albon's transfer to the DTM. The British Thai will race there when his work as a test and reserve driver at Red Bull Racing allows it. Marko is happy with the fact that he has been able to place Albon in the DTM.

"The DTM with a high-class field and GT3 sports cars is an interesting platform and a real challenge, both for successful race drivers like Alex Albon as for our Red Bull junior driver Liam Lawson," Marko said in an initial response through his employer's official channels. The consultant is therefore pleased that he has managed to get his two pupils to drive in the German Championship.

Someone who is at least as happy as Marko is Gerhard Berger. The boss of the DTM saw big names like Mercedes and Audi leaving the racing class in recent years. If we are very honest, the championship was even dying. The fact that Red Bull now seems to be joining with its own team could be an enormous boost.

Berger himself realises this, although he does not say it in so many words. "Alex Albon is a young, ambitious driver and an outstanding gain for the DTM," says the Austrian. "Formula 1 drivers like Alex, DTM stars like three-time champion René Rast, GT professionals and young talents like Liam Lawson - that is a high-class driver mix the way I would like it for the 2021 DTM season."

In addition to Red Bull, F1 world champion Jenson Button will also be competing in the DTM next year with his own team.
