For Jack Aitken, 2020 was a good year. He made his Formula 1 debut at Williams during the Sakhir Grand Prix where he replaced George Russell , who had replaced Lewis Hamilton. But what now?

Three years of Formula 2

Aitken drove a total of three seasons in Formula 2. In 2018 for ART Grand Prix and in 2019 and 2020 for Campos Racing. His best year was in 2019 with three victories and a fifth place in the championship. Last year, however, he could only manage fourteenth place in the championship and only managed to take to the podium twice.

Aitken does not want to stay in Formula 2 for another year. "I've sort of spent enough time in F2 to learn what I need to learn in that series," the British-Korean driver said at Crash.net. "It is a shame that I couldn't have capitalized this year a bit more and had a good result but I think my performances have been very good. If I was to come back, then I'd only want to do so with a view to winning the championship.”

Uncertain future

Leaving Formula 2 behind also creates an uncertain future for Aitken. "We're looking at a lot of options," he says. He prefers to expand his role at Williams. "I've had a great year with Williams and obviously we are having conversations as well, but again, not in a position to announce anything just yet.”
