Lammers still wants to stage 'large public event' in Zandvoort

The Dutch Grand Prix should have been a be a big celebration last year. The organisation in Zandvoort had fully bet on large numbers of spectators to recoup the investments. As a result, they were hit extra hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

It meant that sporting events could only take place without an audience. This was not an option for the Dutch GP and so the whole event was cancelled. For next season, the organisation is sticking to the same principle and wants to create a kind of festival atmosphere again.

Peak is over after the summer

Director Jan Lammers thinks that this time they will be helped by the later place on the calendar. Last year the race was supposed to have taken place at the beginning of May, now it is in September. "It is now more likely that the measures will be more limited and we will be able to allow spectators," said Lammers to De Telegraaf.

He states that 'the peak of the summer holidays' will just be over by then, so nothing will stop them from being able to host a 'large public event'. The always optimistic Lammers says he is already looking forward to the first race in Holland in more than 35 years.
