Everyone at the Alfa Romeo team is happy to be able to take a break after a busy year in 2020. Beat Zehnder, sports director, is proud of his men and states that just a total of seven infections have been discovered in his race team.

"It was often madness. The whole team had to take on a lot. We could only ever appeal to reason and personal responsibility. So in the end we got through this coronavirus period very well. I am proud of the great team," says Zehnder in an interview with Blick.

In the end, 17 Grand Prix weekends were organized in just 23 weeks. Prior to the start of the season in Austria, there was daily consultation between the FIA, FOM and teams. "We had to correct and adjust the safety plan every time. It was almost a masterpiece," he says.

Measures in Russia

A total of 94 infections were found throughout the paddock. Seven of these were at Alfa Romeo, despite the fact that the factory and the travelling drivers and staff were kept strictly separate. "We had seven positive cases. Four to Sochi alone, where these Russians were not exactly exemplary with the safety regulations. Some even forced themselves to take a selfie with me in the hotel without a mask. No wonder all four positive cases turned up in our catering!"
