According to George Russell, the driving style he has developed at Williams is a problem at Mercedes. He also states that things he learned at Mercedes are difficult to implement at his current Formula 1 team.

Russell had a huge opportunity when Lewis Hamilton had to sit a race aside because of a coronavirus infection. The Williams driver was summoned by Toto Wolff to replace Hamilton for the Sakhir Grand Prix.

Being open to what the car has to offer

The young Brit admits that his driving style at Williams did not benefit his Mercedes debut: "My driving style at Williams was disadvantageous at Mercedes," he says at Motorsport-Total.com. He also states that he couldn't just imitate the Mercedes at Williams. "I couldn't do that at Williams. It showed me that I always have to be open to what the car has to offer."

"If someone drives a Mercedes in a certain way, it doesn't mean that they can drive a Williams car in the same way and vice versa," continues the 2018 Formula 2 champion. According to him, the Mercedes is the ultimate racing car. "Whatever you want from a racing car, the Mercedes can give you."
