It is now a tradition. Every year Bernie Ecclestone sends a Christmas card to the most important people in Formula 1. In this card he not only mocks the sport and its leading figures, but also himself. There is also often a message to discover in it. The 2020 edition is another gem in that respect.

This time, Ecclestone himself is in the foreground. As a vital 90-year-old and brand-new father, he pushes the pram up the mountains in the Swiss Alps, the location where he is currently bivouacing. He is busy on the phone while a Grand Prix is going on in the background.

In the two chalets on either side are on the left the people who have invested in Formula 1 (Liberty Media). They sit exhausted and almost crying around the meeting table. On the right we see the fans, who enjoy watching the GP on the couch. It's an apt representation of the situation where Formula 1 is now, but knowing Ecclestone, there may be more behind it.

In the accompanying congratulations, Ecclestone states that there is more to life than just Formula 1 and even has a rare compliment to the current management of the sport for organising last season. A few months ago, however, there was also a rumour that Liberty wanted to get rid of F1 because of the coronavirus crisis. Is Bernie here on the phone to buy the sport back from the exhausted Americans? Who knows!
