No doubt for Mateschitz: 'Who can score the most points for us?'

Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri have performed well as Red Bull teams in 2020. That is the opinion of the big boss, Dietrich Mateschitz. However, it is striking that he only appointed one driver for both teams.

Red Bull has been involved in Formula 1 for many years now and Red Bull Racing has already won the world title four times. That title is still out of the picture for the time being, as Red Bull has never really come close to dominating Mercedes. However, Mateschitz does see his team getting closer and closer.

''At AlphaTauri the car performed very well and Pierre Gasly and at Red Bull Racing we are getting closer and closer to Mercedes. Max is always fast and a few mistakes can always happen. He has shown what he can do. Mercedes is a big challenge for us and their car is just much better now. Max lost a lot of points due to breakdowns, otherwise he would have easily finished second,'' says Mateschitz opposite Speedweek.com.

Perez to Red Bull

With Sergio Perez at Red Bull, Mateschitz hopes to take the next step. ''Next year it will all be even closer together. We're getting closer to Mercedes, but behind us they're coming too. The competition behind Mercedes is very intense,'' says Red Bull's boss, who also explains why Perez was chosen.

''You need two strong drivers next year and Perez is the best in that respect. In addition, he has never driven a car of our level before and that is an opportunity he should have. It was our goal to fill in the place of second driver as well as possible. Who can provide the most points based on speed,'' concludes the Austrian.
