Yuki Tsunoda is going to make the big transition in 2021: From Formula 2 to Formula 1, where he will drive for AlphaTauri. The Japanese driver has admitted he was sweating when he was signing his deal.

Switch from Formula 2 to Formula 1

In an interview with AutosportWeb, Tsunoda admitted he is happy that his hard work has paid off, and that he has managed to get his super license. "In the first half of the season I had a hard time, but in the second half it went better and I was able to take third place in the championship. I am grateful to everyone who has supported me all this time.

"When the contract was signed for me, the sweat was on my forehead. I remember saying to them, 'I'm sweating' because I had to do my best to keep the pen still while I was drawing," he laughed.

According to Tsunoda, there are several factors that played a role in the decision to bring him to AlphaTauri. "I think Dr. Helmut Marko especially appreciated the four races I won from pole. But he also looks at how you handle the tires and your overtaking technique."
